I came across this problem with an iPhone of a Client. The Repair Needed Screen appeared and when that shows up it something to worry about. I started to search what would be the solution, and many people have this problem and there is no known Fix.
The iPhone i was working had No WiFi , Bluetooth, IMEI , ICCID. The baseband was erased completely and this is very strange thing, and i remember in one forum thread that pspsully (i think thats the correct alias of the hacker) was very impressed with this achievement of Erasing the baseband completely.
I was still having the problem and no solution was near, so i have read that the new firmware 1.1.3 fixed this and i would give it a try, because i didn’t have WiFi to try other methods with SSH and terminal.
So the things that i did where like this Step By Step:
I had firmware 1.0.2 with no baseband, WiFi , Bluetooth, IMEI , ICCID
The next thing i did, was update the iPhone to firmware 1.1.1, ( try to get your iPhone on DFU mode with INdependence or iBrickr or use the 10 Seconds trick to get iPhone Restore on iTunes)
Once i was on firmware 1.1.1 i had no choice but to restore to firmware 1.1.3 because i had no WiFi and when i did the *#307# method the phone freezed because i had no baseband.
The next thing is a bit tricky but once i tell you is going to be easy, because i was stuck with some problems.
When you downgrade a firmware version the steps are:
a) Click on restore with alt key or shift on windows and select the desired firmware (in this case 1.1.3) b) Now that all the process of downgrading is on course an error at the end is going to happen. c) The normal thing to do is shut down iTunes and open INdependence or iBrickr and the iPhones gets out of DFU mode to activation screen.
When you are with firmware 1.1.3 you can’t get out of DFU or Restore mode with INdependence or iBrickr.
The next thing to effectively downgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 you will need to use the 10 seconds trick. Press sleep and home button for 10 seconds untill power is off, let go the sleep button but keep holding home untill your computer says iPhone in recover mode ( you need your iPhone conected to the computer) use this expample as reference
If you don’t use the 10 seconds trick and try to downgrade to 1.1.1 you will get an error (1) and you will be stuck with a 1.1.3 iPhone on recovery mode.
These new firmware rewrites all of your file system and restore the baseband and all the missing things (WiFi , Bluetooth, IMEI , ICCID)
Now that you Successfully downgraded to 1.1.1 you will need to restore with 1.1.1 firmware. This restore will get you on the Firmware 1.1.1 activation screen and now you may perform the *#307# jailbreakme.com method or any jailbreak method you know.
In my experience when i was at this stage the firmware had repaired the Repair Needed screen and now i had chance to Dial and get sound from the Phone (The baseband was restored, previously there was no sound)
I am sure this may help a lot of people that have this problem. Comment here if you are going to try it and if this works for you post so every people can get this post as a reference.
If this tutorial resolved your problem, don’t hesitate and donate whatever amount you wish. Thanks
edit: lotech commented this important thing.
WARNING!!!!!
Ok so to correct that above bit - if you do this process your bootloader will be updated too - which screws you for then downgrading to an unlockable baseband version.
You can still downgrade with the testpoint hack, but that involves pulling apart you iphone.

Here are some photos of the recent iPhone 1.1.3 firmware sighting that GearLive came out with. Are they Fake? or Real?
The Apple Community from sites like Digg and Hackint0sh began to speculate regarding weather this photos are real or not. Lets remember that a lot of people are crossing their fingers too. The release of the new 1.1.3 firmware would be the first step for a software unlock for Out of the Box 1.1.2 iPhones.
They are new features that maybe the real thing or some kind of wishes by the guys that created the photoshop work. We have seen many of those, so lets take the news with caution.
1.1.3 Features:
Send an SMS message to multiple people
Google Maps application can now pinpoint your location using cell tower triangulation
Google Maps can now display the Hybrid map view
You can now drag and drop application icons on your home screen
You can now add web bookmarks to your home screen
The photos seems legit, and all but we have to wonder and question, how did he got the new firmware? Maybe Apple is going to request that i get this pictures off
How much are you willing to spend to be guided on the unlocking process? There is so many information out there for free, but its disorganized and you need to go through multiple blog and forum posts.
Then, when you have all the information necessary you need to get all the unlocking tools that the community have provided. Its a Daunting task for Non Tech People, and they may have fear of bricking their iPhone.
I was wondering how much are you willing to spend for this kind of service?
Back in October Apple took some measures and started to limit iPhones Sales they allowed to buy two iPhones per customer, and you had to have a credit card to buy to be traceable
Germans, now have time to play with their iPhones, with contract or without, but some people like to play rude and this video is an example.
This is not a nice welcome to the iPhone on Deutsch soil.
I think they have “buzz” overload across the pond with everybody talking about the iPhone. Some iPhone naysayers may enjoy this video, and others too.. lets watch.

This is likely to become a bidding war were only one carrier is going to deliver the iPhone to a very large country, and this leaves Steve Jobs at a very good position to decide, what partner can be more profitable. Maybe have a deal with both carriers with such a large market? - MacDailyNews
German Fanboys were out shopping for the iPhone in Cologne and resisted all kind of weather inclemency but they finally got their iPhone.
A T-Mobile spokeswoman said the company had sold 10,000 iPhones by the afternoon. The demand will be greater but T-Mobile states that They have plenty of iPhones for this upcoming Holiday Season.
Hundreds of Germans lined up for this hot device, some said:
“All of us are Mac (Apple Macintosh computer) fans,” said a man who works in a MP3 store and was waiting with two of his friends. “The iPhone is the best phone in the world,” he said.
The Apple Fanboys are the kind of people that resist all kind of obstacles ( weather etc) to get the new hot gadget, and this proves that. Remember the first guy in line for the iPhone?
T-Mobile representatives handed out blankets, umbrellas as well as hot tea, coffee and pretzels for those waiting outside.
The next to get the iPhone would be United Kingdom. France turn is at the end of the month. reuters
You can watch, Videos not only from YouTube but from several Video providers of the web. You can watch videos from various parts like MySpace, Dailymotion, Associated Press ,Reuters and ESPN. The magic of this app is that it encodes any Flash video to a native Quick Time player format H.264.
I haven´t tested on my iPhone yet, but it seems that this web app should fill a large gap the iPhone left, by not supporting Flash, this is a good way to solve this problem. This app may be better than the native YouTube app on the iPhone.
Google recently added IMAP support to Gmail and this are good news for iPhone owners because IMAP allows changes made by the user to be reflected on the server, and not downloading and storing sent and received messages.
Gmail IMAP service may be an iPhone selling point for some users.
I am going to leave this video, that explains how to set up Gmail IMAP on your iPhone.
Would you like to update to the 1.1.1 firmware version and play with the iTunes Music Store?
There was a method that i tried that involved , connecting to your iPhone over SFTP and SSH and execute some files and cheat SimFree application with the seczones on geohot server.
It´s complicated if you are a newbie ( I was stuck figiuring out some things ) but there is a better solution for that.
Apple and Orange announced their deal to distribute the iPhone in France. The iPhone debut on Thursday, November 29.
